Abstract

In 2018 and 2019, a Danish-Peruvian team of archaeologists investigated the archaeological site Posic in the Peruvian cloud forest. Posic has in prehistory been occupied first by a local culture followed by the Chachapoyas culture and later it has been incorporated into the Inca Empire. Posic is also described in the Spanish sources as being rich in i.a. gold and salt. In connection with the organization of such a research project, there are a lot of challenges of a practical and administrative nature; before, during and after the field work. In addition, one should consider some ethical considerations, e.g. in the form of what right one as a foreign actor have to carry out scientific research in another country and with what, in addition to the actual research results, you can contribute to that country. The Forgotten Amazon had a clear strategy for using different digital methods, including total station and GIS, which also contributed to the different challenges.
