TARAS SHEVCHENKO AND THE KYIV COMMUNITY: SPATIAL DIMENSION

Abstract

The article examines the mutual influence of the figure of T. G. Shevchenko and the activities of the Kyiv Society – Ukrainophile organization that had a significant impact on the formation and development of Ukrainian national life in the Russian Empire from the 1850s to the beginning of the 20th century. Spatial aspects of the problem are outlined. Emphasis is placed on places and practices of intellectual space formation, creation of Kobzar's image as a national poet. The focus is on honoring his memory. Particular facts of meetings that took place in Kyiv, Kanev, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sevastopol were noted.
